    Its cute, its safe and it has lots to do. Two days is the bare minimum to start discovering this fisherman village, now home  to Brazil`s largest sea-turtle sanctuary.

     Hop on a bus or rent a car and head over to Praia do Forte, 80 minutes north of Salvador.

Beach

    The better beaches are north or south of the village.

Image Quadricycle *

    They have 90 minute tours of the forest, the dunes or the beaches, all on these dune bikes. Fun for the kids or drunk adults (joke).

Forest Reserve

    A great 2 hour tour of a Brazilian Atlantic forest, with various exotic fruits and animals loos.

Tamar turtle Sanctuary

    Brazil`s largest sea-turtle sanctuary. Sea turtles bigger than coffee tables. Their gift shop has amazingly well designed  souveniers.

D'Avila Castle

    One Brazil`s largest and most coveted castles, home to the one the largest and richest families during colonial times.

Diving*

    Take diving lessons, or at least go through a baptism and enjoy the cor- al life unspoiled in this part of the country. Warm clear waters.

 

Whale watching *

    Yes, just like tourists every winter they come to this area looking for warm waters to have sex, err, mate.

 

Natural Pools

    There are dozens of natural pools spread along the coast of Praia do Forte. Instead of sitting on the sand, break tradition and sit in one of these all day.

Dune-buggy rides *

    The have trips to the dunes in various forms: buggy, quadricycle, horse etc. All of them fun.

Imbassai *

    A true paradise on Earth, 20 minutes north of the village. Look for buses heading that way.

  
 
 

 Where to eat

    Any of the various restaurants in the main street in the village are sure shots. If you want an extremely cheap seafood platter,
shoot for Canteiro do Pirata,
where 2 can eat a seafood platter for under R$40.

Nightlife

    Its has a quiet nightlife during low-season (bars and restaurants), but bumps during high season (Jan- March). Given its a small village, all parties areeasy to find.
