JANUARY
Vacation Month
January is vacation month for schools and government offices. There are a dozen feasts between December and January, so find one won’t be hard.

Bonfim Church Feast
Second Thursday in January everyone walks from downtown to Bonfim church to wash its stairs.

Iemanja Feast
Candomble religious feast offering gifts to the ocean Goddess. Feb 5th.

Carnival*
Carnival is also the largest party of the year: 165 million people partying for a week. If you are here during carnival, be sure to get buy an “abada” to participate in any of the various trio-eletricos.

Presente de Yemanjá de Humaitá
Candomble feast in Mont Serrat on the 8th of March.

Ramos Procession
Religious event around the 3rd week.

Holy Week
Various manifestations thoughout the city, inclucing the Passion of Christ play in Dique do Tororo.

Saint Francis Xavier Processions
Another religious events that ends up transforming into a big party.

JUNE
Festa Junina
Festa Junina is hick fest. Everyone dresses like a hick and goes square dancing, Brazilian style of course. Usually these events are held between large groups of friends (100 or more), but some are run by a party promotion company. Worth a visit.

Independance Feast
Another reason to party. July 2nd.
Mid-year school vacation month. Get-away destinations packed.
